Frequently Asked Questions About Choice Home Warranty

What is a home warranty?

A home warranty is a service contract, typically offered on an annual basis, that will repair or replace properly maintain covered appliances and major systems if they break down due to normal wear and tear.*

Is a home warranty the same as homeowners insurance?

No. Homeowners insurance and home warranty are two different coverages. Homeowners insurance protects your home damage due to major incidents and hazards like fire, burglary, or natural disasters. Your insurance will not cover any appliances or systems that wear out with regular use, but that’s exactly what a home warranty does.

Will Choice Home Warranty offer a service contract for my older home, systems, or appliances?

The age of your home, appliances, or systems does not matter. Choice Home Warranty offers coverage regardless of age, provided that the items are properly maintained and are in good working order when the contract takes effect.

Can I buy a home warranty if I purchased my home a few years ago?

Home warranties are often purchased by new homeowners, but a service contract can be started at any time of home ownership. It is not necessary to be in a real estate transaction to enroll in your home warranty plan.

Will Choice Home Warranty deny my claim for repair or replacement?

Choice Home Warranty exclusively provides repair or replacement for covered home systems and appliances that are in good working order at the start of the service contract and properly maintained thereafter. If your item has not been properly maintained or reveals a pre-existing condition, your claim will be denied. Claims will not be approved for items that are mistreated or abused.

Do I have to get a home inspection?

Choice Home Warranty strongly recommends a home inspection prior to starting your service contract, but it is not required. Homeowners who invest in a home inspection will be able to identify which items in their home need service or repair, and which ones are in good working order.

When does my home warranty coverage start and end?

Your coverage period with Choice Home Warranty will begin 30 days after your contract payment and enrollment, and remains in effect 365 days from your start date. If you have existing coverage through another carrier Choice Home Warranty can start your new coverage when your old policy expires, provided you can show that there is no coverage lapse.

What if Choice Home Warranty is unable to repair my item?

If your service technician is unable to repair an appliance or covered system, you will be provided with a replacement free of charge.

What if Choice Home Warranty is unable to secure a replacement for my item?

If Choice Home Warranty can’t replace your item, you will be offered a cash payment in the amount of Choice Home Warranty’s replacement cost, which may be less than retail value. This allows you to select your own replacement.

What should I do if I need service?

If your covered item is in need of service, contact Choice Home Warranty’s claims department. Claims can be submitted online, or by calling the claims department at 1-888-531-5403 at any time 24/7/365.

What is the cost of a service call?

You will have to pay a service call fee for each repair or replacement. The cost is $60, no matter the actual cost of your repair or replacement. Service call fees are paid directly to service contractors.

Can I renew my home warranty?

Your home warranty service contract can be renewed annually. At renewal time, you will be offered the prevailing renewal terms and rate.
